Leather Beaded Horse Bag.

Leather Beaded Horse Bag.

This new leather bag was hand beaded by me, a member of the Coharie Nation of North Carolina.

The size is approximately 8" wide x 9 1/2" tall. The fringe is an additional 4 1/4" long. The handle is long enough to make wearing across the body possible. It is fully lined with a floral print cotton. The horse is beaded with size 13 Czech cut glass beads.

You really have to see to appreciate because these beads have small facets which cause them to sparkle. The beading is very tight and every 3 beads have been tacked.

There is a genuine turquoise cabochon in the mane and a metal hand charm on the hindquarter. The strips were done on the loom with size 11 Czech glass beads.

The horse has been long seen as a symbol of strength and freedom. They were used by many Native Americans as a primary source of transportation, for hunting, and to carry one into battle. I have beaded this bag with a horse to honor him for his service and his companionship.

This is a one of a kind bag and will not be duplicated by me.

Love of the Horse Medicine Bag.

Love of the Horse Medicine Bag.

This hand laced medicine bag is approximately 3" wide x 3 1/2" tall, not including the fringe. The fringe is around 6" long and has been doubled.

The leather tie is 15" on either side so there is plenty of room to get it over your head.

The red leather heart and beaded hoof tracks are symbolic for love of the horse.

Size 11 Czech glass seed beads outline the heart and the edge of the flap of the bag. I have added a couple of cones holding dyed deer tail in front of the fringe, and a couple of guinea feathers hang to the side of the bag.

Owl Medicine Bag.

Owl Medicine Bag.

According to some American Indian tribes, the owl is believed to possess wisdom, be a keeper of sacred knowledge, and have the ability to see into the future. Others see him as the messenger of death, and still others have even different beliefs.

This hand-laced medicine bag is approximately 9" tall from the tip of the ears to the bottom of the fringe. The fringe is doubled.

The face is beaded with size 11 Czech glass seed beads, and the eyes are genuine tiger eye cabochons.

I have added a vintage button for the closure and buffalo horn hair pipe, brass, and glass beads.

The bag will come filled with cedar, sage, sweet grass, and tobacco.

Red Leather Native Bag.

Red Leather Native Bag.

This leather bag measures approximately 4 1/2" wide x 8 3/8" long, not including the handle. The braided handle is approximately 12" long, with an additional 5" of fringe.

The bead work was created on a loom using size 11 Czech glass seed beads, and the fringe on the shirt has a 3D effect.

The bag is put together with hand cut lacing, and decorative lacing has also been added around the bead work. The top left corner of the picture has been adorned with a shell, glass beads, and leather fringe.

The metal cones make a beautiful sound when they move.

Southeastern Style Neck Bag.

Southeastern Style Neck Bag.

This is a southeastern style neck bag. It measures approximately 3 1/4" wide x 4 1/2" tall. This measurement does not include the fringe or the leather neck strap. The fringe is approximately 5 1/2" long. The leather neck strap is around 28" so there is plenty of length to get over your head. Of course, you could also tie it on your belt at whatever length you prefer.

The flower is appliqued using size 11 Czech glass seed beads. I have used glass crow beads to accent the fringe. The closure acts as button you push through a slit in the leather. The button in this case is actually a wampum bead. A unique feature for a bag of this size is the 1/2" gusset. It enables the bag to expand to be able to hold more items.
