The Little People
A Micmac Legend
The Little People, whom we call Míkmwesúk, played a very important part in the lives of the Míkmaq. They taught us many things including how to make canoes, arrows and wikuóm's (wigwams). They lead us to good places of hunting and fishing, where our people have lived happily for many centuries.
However, the Little People have always demanded a small gift every time our canoes passed their home at Little People's Point. If we failed to do this they might cause great storms to rage about us, or horrible dreams to visit us in our sleep.
The Míkmaq today have great respect for their Little People.
