She received an art education from both the LA Art Center (while in high school) and from Brigham Young University where she earned a BA in 1971. After finishing school, she and her family moved back to Arizona where two more children were added, bring the total to four. It was during this time when they lived on the White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation that she developed a great love, insight, and sensitivity for the people and culture of the White Mountain Apache and sold many of her original paintings and pen-and-ink prints. She taught figure drawing classes at the local community college and later, 7th and 8th grade students by the thousands drew and painted their way through a series of fun and enlightening art classes. Gretchen Price has always drawn and painted and feels blessed to have developed her talents in the arts. Recently, Tribal Chairman, Ronnie Lupe, expressed his appriciation for her paintings, saying they were masterful, wonderful and show the beauty of his reality.
