Native American Flutes

David's courting flutes are handcrafted from prime grade aromatic cedar, cherry, and black walnut, and a variety of other domestic woods. The woods used are touted by professionals to possess the finest acoustics for flute making.

Numerous techniques are utilized in the making of their flutes to provide you with an heirloom musical instrument that can be passed down through the generations. The interior of the flute has been sealed to protect the instrument from the player's breath moisture. The exterior of the flute has a hand rubbed oil finish and is polished with a combination of carnauba and beeswax.

Different wood types are available in the following tonal ranges :: treble, bass, deep bass, or contrabass. The images below represent only a small number of the courting flutes available.

David Nighteagle Bio

David Nighteagle is a flute player and storyteller extraordinaire. David combines his Lakota knowledge of flute making, playing, and stories to engage audiences. With more than ten years of experience working with elementary, middle and high schools, he is skilled in integrating oral traditions with social studies curricula.

David teaches students the importance of flutes in Native American culture. He shows students the parts of the flute and explains the physics principles that create the sound. A unique aspect to David's performance is that students are given the opportunity to play music. Students create a song with percussive instruments, and David plays his flute to their beat.

David is 57 years of age. He was raised in the mountains of North Carolina and has lived in Colorado for 35 years. He owns a home and shop in Southwestern Colorado. In addition to flute making and performing, David has worked as a photographer and also as an investigator for the State of Colorado.
