Snowshoe Island Legend
A Micmac Legend
Long, long ago Kluskap walked up the Saint John river on his snow
shoes, in the early spring. Compressed snow tracks are always slow
to melt. This was true of Kluskap's tracks, but his were so large
and firm that many of them can still be seen as Islands. Watch for
them as you drive along the Saint John river. The Míkmaq
tell many legends of Kluskap, their great God. The Míkmaq
language was one of the most complex and has been composed with
Latin, Greek and Sanskrit.
